PRESS REVIEW

" WONDERFUL LIGHTNESS! "

(La Nación, Argentina)

Extremely talented ARTISTS.

AN INCREDIBLE WAY TO TELL STORIES.
A MUST SEE! "

(One4review, UK • Festival Fringe)

" AN ABSOLUTELY SUBLIME SHOW (...) You will come away captivated. "

(Arts In The City, France)

" AN ADMIRABLE SHOW in which dance, mime and music are one. "

(La Stampa, Italy)

" Beauty and grace inhabit this anthology of choreographed tangos. The artists are of a diabolical precision and fluidity. This reminder of a rare art on stage today (pantomime) demonstrates its modernity. Los Guardiola reinvent a mythology of Tango, embodying it in an original and flamboyant stage dramaturgy, with a staging that shines with its costumes and lights. "

(France Info)

" A talent in its purest form ! "

(Luna Teatral, Argentina)

" AN ORIGINAL ARTISTIC PROPOSAL which, through a selection of the most beautiful tangos, retraces history in the manner of silent cinema anthology films. To see, to laugh, admire and applaud. "

(La Milonga Argentina, Argentina)

" A SURPRISING SHOW, which holds the audience spellbound by the perfection of its wordless language, in which the two dancers communicate through each movement, each step, each gesture. "

(La Cazuela, Argentina)

" Tango is transformed in brilliant theatre! "

(Broadway Baby, UK • Festival Fringe)

Giorgia Marchiori

Giorgia MARCHIORI is a dancer, choreographer, mime artist, circus performer, and holds a PhD in Philosophy.

Born in Rome, she began classical dance at the age of four. She continued her studies in jazz dance at the Balletto di Roma and in Argentine tango in Buenos Aires with leading masters. Alongside her work as a mime artist, she made her stage debut in 2003 in La Locandiera by Goldoni, performing the role of Mirandolina.

After completing her studies in Philosophy at La Sapienza University of Rome, with a thesis on the relationship between individual and species in Aristotle’s Categories, in 2003 she began her artistic collaboration with Marcelo Guardiola, forming the duo Los Guardiola. The originality of their work lies in telling stories without words, blending physical theatre and dance.

Marcelo Guardiola

Marcelo GUARDIOLA is an actor, mime artist, dancer, musician, lighting designer, and theatre director.

Born in Argentina, he began his studies at the age of eight at the Municipal Conservatory of Bahía Blanca. In 1976, at the age of ten, he made his stage debut as a musician and subsequently worked with various artistic companies.

In 1996, integrating several artistic forms (music, theatre, dance, circus), he began an experimental research process that led to the creation of the performance Che Diablo, with which he made his debut as a theatre director.

Between 1997 and 1998, he undertook a journey of an artistic and anthropological nature across Europe, Africa, Asia, and the Americas. Following this experience, he created Tango Teatro, an experimental research project whose aim is to develop performances using tango dance as expressive physical training and music as a source of inspiration for stage creation.

In 2003, he settled in Italy, created the performance Tango Migrante, and began his collaboration with Giorgia Marchiori, forming the duo Los Guardiola.

Los Guardiola

Marcelo GUARDIOLA and Giorgia MARCHIORI, artistically known as Los Guardiola, form “one of the most original and highly acclaimed couples”, as reported by the Buenos Aires press. Their performances have toured theatres and festivals all over the world.

In 2004, in Buenos Aires, they received the honorary diploma Nueva Generación for their work as tango dancers. For their specific and original use of tango in theatre, they were invited in 2011 to Denmark to take part in the 8th Holstebro Festuge, organized by the Odin Teatret and directed by Eugenio Barba.

In 2016, the National Academy of Tango of the Argentine Republic awarded them its institutional patronage “as artists who disseminate the culture of Argentine tango through dance, mime and the poems of tango.

Authors and performers of all their productions, in 2016 they premiered their creation Los Guardiola at the famous Teatro Maipo in Buenos Aires, followed in March 2017 by the European premiere at the Odin Teatret in Denmark, one of the most important research theatres directed by Eugenio Barba.

Since 2003, their career—inseparably linked to the name Los Guardiola—has been characterized by a personal and multidisciplinary style, in which they are both creators and performers. In addition to their collaboration with the Italian research theatre Teatro Potlach for the productions Felliniana and Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, they have adapted for the stage: Death and the Maiden by Roman Polanski and Theorem by Pier Paolo Pasolini (for the Festival delle Scritture Cinematografiche di Rome), Fêtes galantes by Paul Verlaine (a version for piano, voice and dancing pantomimes), their Christmas classic Sous le Sapin (an adaptation of The Nutcracker for two toys, blending dance, mime and circus), and Los Guardiola – Fantasy in 7 and a Half Dreams, on stage in Paris since 2017.

Denmark holds a special place in their artistic journey. There they created The Tales of Andersen, Ephemera (for the Skive Cultural Festival, Denmark), and more recently a concert-performance dedicated to the Danish sculptor Thorvaldsen and Greek mythology, in which sculptures and mythological stories are brought to life through dance set to Debussy’s preludes.

Their exploration of the visual arts has also led them to collaborate with the Circo Criollo company, presenting the Impressionist Circus in prestigious venues such as the Museum of Fine Arts in Rouen, the Monet Museum and the Pissarro Museum.

At the same time, they have also created the choreography for Tango Secret, an original work by flutist Luis Rigou, and for Recital CanTango, a performance by the renowned tenor Fabio Armiliato exploring the links between opera and tango, presented among others at the International Dance Festival of Nervi (Italy), the Royal Opera House of Oman and the Teatro Maipo in Buenos Aires.

They have taken their wordless art around the world: Germany, England, Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Denmark, Scotland, Spain, France, Italy, Oman, Qatar, Russia, Slovenia and Switzerland.
